• Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a natural substance responsible for accelerating cellular metabolism and energy production. Mitochondria are involved in the metabolism of proteins and fats and are responsible for obtaining energy from the food we eat. Co-Q10 is necessary for the transport of nutrients across mitochondrial membranes, a process in which ATP (cellular energy currency) is produced.
• At the same time, Coenzyme Q10 has been shown to prevent cell wall oxidation, giving it important antioxidant properties.
• Co-Q10 is therefore necessary for maintaining cell integrity and for proper fat metabolism and energy production. It has been shown to have better bioavailability when mixed with soya lecithin in soft gelatine capsules, as it passes through the cell wall more easily.
