Calaguala is a fern that grows mainly in the highlands of Central America. Its extracts have immunomodulatory effects and can be used to treat many autoimmune disorders. It is associated with the correction of T lymphocyte imbalance, specifically by increasing the levels of T8 suppressor lymphocytes and the consequent normalisation of the T4/T8 ratio. The absence of adverse effects, combined with good tolerance and the success achieved, make us optimistic about its use in the treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and other autoimmune skin diseases characterised by a deficit of suppressor T lymphocytes.
